Educational Cleaning Services Porirua
Cleaning for schools, early childhood centres and training facilities across Porirua and the wider Wellington region, scheduled around the timetable.
Cleaning built around the school timetable
Cleaning for schools, early childhood centres, training facilities and education premises across Wellington, Porirua, the Hutt Valley and the Kāpiti Coast. Education sites are cleaned around a timetable rather than a working day, take far heavier use than an office, and are held to a higher standard in bathrooms and food areas because the people using them are children.
Waikanae Commercial Cleaning Services has been cleaning premises in this region since 1987.

Holidays are when the heavy work happens, because it is the only time a school building is genuinely empty. Scheduling that properly is most of what makes an education contract work.
Working around the school day
After the last bell
Most cleaning happens after the last bell. Our hours are Monday to Friday, 7am to 9pm, which covers an after-school schedule or an early-morning one before staff arrive.
Some things need attention during the day regardless, particularly primary school toilets and any spill or hygiene incident. Agree that explicitly when the contract is scoped rather than improvising on the day.
Exams, events and the school calendar
Secondary schools have periods when the normal schedule cannot apply. During NCEA exams, halls and exam rooms need cleaning to a fixed timetable and noisy work such as floor machines has to move elsewhere in the building or to another time.
The same is true of production weeks, prizegivings, open evenings and sports tournaments. We take the calendar at the start of the year and schedule around it. Explore school cleaning in Wellington.
How we work in schools and centres

Early childhood centres
ECE centres are scoped differently again. More of the work sits at child height, and sleep rooms, mat areas, toy storage and food preparation each need specific attention. Surfaces that a school would clean daily often need it more than once in an ECE setting.

Products and children
Product choice matters more here than almost anywhere, because of the number of children with asthma and allergies and the hours they spend in the same rooms. Where a school or centre has a policy or preference, we work to it. Where there is none, we will talk through what we use before anything is agreed.

Access and who is on site
Cleaners and supervisors hold the keys or access cards, and supervisors train the cleaners on the alarm and lock-up procedure before they work on site. Schools and centres have their own contractor screening and sign-in requirements, and they vary between boards. We work to whatever yours are.
What drives the cost
- Roll size and number of classrooms
- Number of toilet blocks, usually the largest single labour item
- Floor surfaces and how much hard floor needs periodic work
- Whether holiday deep cleaning is in the annual figure or quoted separately
- Hall and gym use, especially where hired out in the evenings
- Site spread, since several blocks take longer than the same area in one

Changing cleaning contractors at a school
Schools change cleaning contractors more often than most organisations, usually at the end of a contract term or after a tender. The risk is not the cleaning. It is a handover landing badly and the first fortnight of a term being a mess.
Two things make it go smoothly. Time the start to a term break wherever the contract allows, so the new team learns the site while the building is empty rather than while it is full of students. And agree the scope in writing before the changeover, covering both term time and holidays, so nothing falls between the outgoing contractor and the incoming one.
Where the people currently cleaning your school move across to us, we manage that transfer properly. We have taken team members on from outgoing contractors many times. A cleaner who already knows the site, the lock-up and which block floods when it rains is worth keeping, and for the school it means continuity rather than starting again.
Your board will have its own procurement and contractor screening requirements. Tell us what they are and we will work to them.
What we supply
We bring the equipment and the products, so nothing sits on the school budget for machinery a contractor uses.
- Commercial vacuums, mops, scrubbers and floor machines
- Cleaning products, with options where a school or centre has a policy on what may be used around children
- Consumables such as hand towel, toilet paper, soap and bin liners, where the school wants those included rather than managed in-house
Consumables are worth settling at the quote stage. In a school they are a substantial line in their own right, and whether they sit with us or with the school office changes the annual figure noticeably.
Frequently asked questions
Do you clean during school hours?
Mostly after, once students and staff have gone. A daytime presence for toilets and incident response can be arranged where a school wants it.
What happens in the holidays?
The daily schedule pauses and the periodic work happens instead: floors, carpets, high-level dusting, windows and a deep clean of the toilet blocks. Agreed and priced at the start of the year.
Can you handle an illness outbreak?
We move to enhanced cleaning and disinfection focused on high-touch surfaces, bathrooms, kitchens, classrooms and shared equipment, and additional visits can be arranged as needed. We align what we do with public health guidance and with your own facility management plan.
Do you clean tertiary and training facilities?
Yes. Training rooms, workshops and shared teaching spaces are all within scope.
When is the best time to change cleaning contractors?
A term break, wherever the timing allows. The new team can learn the site while it is empty, and the holiday periodic work makes a natural starting point for a new scope.
Do you provide a written scope we can take to the board?
Yes. The quote is against a written scope with a frequency set against each task, covering term time and holidays separately. That is the form most boards want to see, and it is what makes two quotes comparable.
Are your cleaners screened before they work in a school or centre?
Yes. Every staff member goes through identity verification, reference checks, police vetting, a health and safety induction, infection control training and site-specific training before working in an educational facility, with ongoing supervision after that.
